Akogun - Brutalizer of the Gods #2 is a fantasy tale that is full of bloody fights and political tensions. It is definitely not for the faint of heart.

This comic series follows Akogun, a man with a quest for the blood of the gods, and will cut down whoever and whatever to get vengeance for his parents and for his village.

Written by Murewa Ayodele, there is a lot of attention in the world building in this issue. Gods such as “Sango,” the god of storms not only make their appearance, but are impressive in their roles in this entry and assist with the grandeur of the tale.

In addition to the script, part of the scale of this series is from the art by Dotun Akande and colors by Dee Cunniffe. From the character design to the exchange of blows with fists and swords, the art elevates the solid writing with intense sequences. (Some may even liken moments to scenes from the video game series, God of War.)

While the issue itself is enjoyable, readers may feel overwhelmed with information in this issue as there is a lot to keep track of. This in no way truly impacts the experience, but multiple reads will likely let the story marinate with readers.

Final Verdict

This issue is rich in lore and epic from start to finish. It’s an oversized issue making each read better and better. Fans of blades and blood need look no further than this series from Oni Press.
